Booking a Mexican consulate appointment is usually the first, and one of the most important steps on the residency journey. It is not always a straightforward process.
Depending on the consulate you use, availability and process for booking appointments varies. The conditions for residency may also vary according to immigration law, trends, local needs/currency, etc.
Consulate Appointment Tips
In this article we share some consulate appointment tips to help you prepare according to current conditions:
- Be prepared and persistent. You may have to try various consulates to book an appointment.
- Depending on the consulate, book an appointment via MiConsulado, by email or in person.
- If applying in Miami you will need to provide proof of address in Miami.
- The California consulate only gives appointments to Californian residents.
- Banking documentation from countries other than the one hosting the consulate you apply at, must be apostilled and translated into Spanish for the appointment, e.g. your banking documentation is British, but you are attending a Mexican consulate in the US.
- Other documentation (birth/marriage certificates, professional/academic documents), will need to be apostilled and translated too, if from a country other than the one you are applying in.
- Carry sufficient cash and a credit card to your consulate appointment to pay according to their available services on the day.
- If applying as a couple/family, all members must be present at the consulate appointment – including the Mexican resident or citizen, in case of family unity.
