From September 2024, an online appointment system is in use for all Mexican immigration offices. Until now, one had to go to the office in person to book an appointment.

Book an INM Appointment Online

The new local online appointment system is for most immigration procedures. Procedures include canjes, temporary and permanent residency (for appointments in Mexico) renewals, repositioning, change of address/job/civil status/nationality. All must be done via online appointment, except the regularization process and work visas. In Playa del Carmen and Mexico City appointments for these processes should be made in person at the INM office. Check directly with your own local office regarding appointments for regularization and work visas.

It is important to note that this is not the same as the Mi Consulado portal. Mi Consulado is for booking Mexican consulate appointments when initiating a residency application from outside Mexico. For further information on that service, consult our blog: How to Book an Appointment at a Mexican Consulate.

How to Book an Appointment

To use the online appointment service for local immigration offices in Mexico, simply enter the online portal at: https://citas.inm.gob.mx/foreign/login

Then you will have to create an account. So safely store your username and password for future use. To book an appointment you will need a ‘pieza’ number. If you already have a procedure underway, you will have received the pieza. If this is a new procedure, then you can generate it from within the system. This will be the first step after logging in. Submit a ‘solicitud’ by completing the form for the relevant procedure and verify your data. A pieza document will then be generated. Next, enter the pieza number. The following step allows you to select the date and time you prefer for your appointment.

Finally, don’t forget to arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of your appointments.
